Casa Primos

playa guiones, nosara, costa rica

A 3-minute walk from the beach along a quaint wooded path takes one to a point where a trellised front gate comes into view. Behind the gate, near the end of a quiet, unnamed street hides a secluded sanctuary: Casa Primos.  Tucked comfortably into a tropical grove surrounded by trees and bamboo is a residence of distinction.  Easily one of the best residential properties and locations within the loosely-knit village of Playa Guiones, this intimate compound is remarkably private despite it's prime location.  Casa Primos, at the end of a small drive, benefits from having almost non-existent automobile traffic with most people traveling past the house on foot, often with a surfboard or yoga mat under arm.

Stepping into the house for the first time visitors are immediately taken with the open central corridor and it's nineteen-foot, teak-clad ceiling, leading the way through an arched passage and out to an inviting swimming pool and the lush jungle beyond.  Ceiling fans turn gracefully over an open living space that provides the ideal area for families and friends to gather while cooking, entertaining and enjoying conversation.  Solid hardwood custom furniture, cabinetry, and shelving mixes with a collection of original art, textiles, pottery, books and games.  Unique custom-designed lighting fixtures create the perfect mood and atmosphere.  The fully-equipped kitchen, with it's bold tile pattern, open shelving and elevated floor set the perfect stage for a chef to perform or for friends to enjoy morning coffee.  An antique table in the common area with a modern chandelier above becomes a roundabout for the entry to all four bedrooms and guest bathroom, a stopping-off point before venturing out to the salt-water pool. The bedrooms are open yet cozy, with screened, louvered windows and operable transoms to encourage cool breezes when the A/C isn't utilized.

While the house will charm guests with it's comfort and style, perhaps the real center of the action is the backyard pool and it's adjoining two-level rancho with it's dramatic thirty foot high thatch roof.  As a backdrop, the protected jungle preserve, with lush, natural vegetation, creates a feeling of secluded privacy. The sound of a waterfall spilling gently into the end of the pool encourages a relaxed atmosphere as guests enjoy sipping a cool drink in the shade of the rancho's outdoor living room.  The Rancho's kitchen, bar and full bathroom make it possible to spend hours in this small paradise without leaving.  Stairs wrap around the back of the rancho and up to the open and tranquil space of the upper level, an ideal place for a peaceful sunrise meditation, massage or a solo or group yoga practice.
